Book Blitz: Leon's Way by Sunniva Dee; Excerpt + Giveaway

Leon's Way
Author: Sunniva Dee
Release Date: 19 December 2014

I’m Leon , number one object of Deepsilver’s rumor mill. Owner of student hotspot, Smother.

Since I was sixteen, the world has been mine. I do everything—
My way.

Every co-ed in town clenches her thighs over me, but most don’t fit the bill. See, I like my girls broken . Once I detect my shade of don’t-give-a-fuck damaged, I fight hard, I fight dirty, and I don’t give up until—
I conquer.

Drunk fathers and frequent beatings don’t merit attention, but when my despicable dad starts the process of croaking, I’m forced to remember. Thus, the downward spiral begins: my latest broken-girl turns the tables on me and splits. My hot-as-hell employee, Arriane, throws me the curve ball of a lifetime. And suddenly—
I’m out of control.

But at the center of my chaos, she exists. Always close, always sweet, and so beautifully fucking… wholesome. She represents everything I’ve shied from in a woman. Still—
I crave her.

I’m Leon, and I don’t deny my cravings. Just—this girl is not surrendering. So here I am, fighting harder. Fighting dirtier. And goddammit all, I will—
Conquer.

Excerpt

The man I’ve loved for years is going ballistic. Books, glasses, and candles ricochet off the walls and crash to the floor. The low growl contained in his throat unleashes as he hurls his stereo at the window, making the glass panes shatter on impact.

“She fucking left me for him!”

He spins and locks on me. When Leon stares at you, he consumes you. He traps you in a small, flustered vacuum where he’s all that matters. “Leon… you’ll be okay,” I begin, but my voice trembles.

I can’t wrap my mind around this meltdown. Nothing ruffles him, nothing surprises him; in all my years at the club, I’ve never seen fissures in the marble of my boss’ beautiful façade. With the exception of his girlfriends, everything he touches remains orderly, and yet he’s losing it so completely right now.

This state he’s in… It doesn’t rock my need to be there for him. I—

Am always close.

He’s my love. My unreciprocated love, because I am just Arriane, his left hand, the favorite bartender. Not one of the dolls he breaks.

Leon’s chest lifts and sinks with his turmoil. “I’ve never worked to keep someone the way I did with her. Fuck, I did everything I could while all he needed to do was barge into Smother. He fucking stole her from under my nose!” Angry tears glitter, drifting over surreally blue irises.

“Stole?” He’s delusional.

Excerpt

In the distance, Charlotte Fielding spotted the simple, white-lettered sign that marked her destination. Apothecary. The tension she’d been carrying in her shoulders since entering the Whitley residence loosened its biting grip. The strain between husband and wife had not lifted in her two-day absence. If anything, it had grown worse, now that Mr. Whitley felt well enough to defend himself.

Charlotte’s brisk pace slowed. A man was slumped on the pavement between her shop and the boarded-up bakery next door. He sat with one leg stretched out across the walkway, the other bent at an angle. The rim of his hat protected his face from identification. So, too, did the long black woolen coat and matching muffler around his neck.

The tension in Charlotte’s shoulders returned full force. Even though she could not identify him, she knew what he wasn’t—a beggar. Everything about him was too fine for him to be living in the streets. She glanced around, checking the evening shadows as best she could with only lamplight to aid her. Anderson’s lending library, Patterson’s coffee shop, Gertrude’s lace boutique, Tilly’s former bakery—they all stood silent and free of loitering troublemakers and customers. If she cried out for help, would the shopkeepers hear her from their snug, upstairs apartments?

She considered entering through the back of her building, an area normally reserved for deliveries, but she couldn’t bring herself to venture down the dank, narrow alleyway at this time of night. Drawing in a calming breath, she reached into her reticule and pulled out her pouch of pepper. A poor defense, she knew, but she always kept it, thinking it would give her a small chance of escape if thrown in an assailant’s face.

Increasing her pace, she stopped in front of her shop’s weathered door, the color of a cloud-streaked blue sky. The man remained motionless, silent. Eerily so. She experienced a moment of indecision. Should she nudge him? Could he be hurt and in need of assistance? Or should she continue on inside her own shop and mind her own business?

“Hello, Charley.” The voice was unmistakable.

A chill started at the base of her neck and swept through her body. Bone deep and breath stealing. With slow, precise movements, her gaze lowered to the source of the too-familiar voice. A voice that belonged to the only man who had ever called her Charley.

The man’s uplifted face revealed itself. Thick, bold eyebrows stood out on a pale, pain-filled face. A once-beloved face. Cameron Adair. What little air she had left disappeared at the sight of Cam—Cameron. Other than a brief glimpse of him a few months ago, she hadn’t seen him for years. But she would have known him anywhere. The shock of seeing him held her immobile, terrified in a way she hadn’t been since the early days of their falling out.

“Charley, I need your help.”

His words, laced with a strain born of hard-fought control, snapped her out of the past and plunged her back into the present. Cameron Adair was sprawled at her door, hurt, needing her help.

She slid her key into the lock. Metal scratched against metal until she heard a familiar click. Setting her bag inside the door, she returned outside. “Are you able to get to your feet?” She managed to keep her voice calm, unaffected. But inside, a violent tremor began and a maelstrom of questions flooded her mind. Why come to her? Where was he hurt? Why show up on her doorstep after complete and utter silence for five miserable years?

Carefully, she folded her hands at her waist and locked her knees before she could humiliate herself with senseless emotion. She had decided long ago to waste no more of it on Cameron Adair.

Something like disappointment flared in his blue, ice-chipped eyes. “Yes, with assistance.”

“Where are you hurt?”

“Left leg, right shoulder.”

“Let’s get you inside out of the cold, and I’ll hail a hansom cab to take you to Dr. Hollingsworth.”

He shook his head and mumbled, “I’ve been shot. Lost too much blood.”

“Cameron, I can’t—”

“You must,” he interrupted. “I haven’t the strength to go elsewhere.”

She knew what it had cost him to admit to such weakness. And because she knew this about him, an unrivaled fear forced her to his side.

Positioning herself in a crouch, Charlotte took a steadying breath before sliding her arm around his broad back. Blood, sweat, and a masculine scent uniquely Cameron’s filled her nose. She gritted her teeth against an overwhelming desire to inhale deeply.

“Ready?” she asked.

He nodded once, his full lips pressed into a thin, determined line. Bending forward, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder to brace himself. The new position put them face-to-face, breath-to-breath.

      "Levian."
At least she didn't squeal. She sounded confident. Not her heart, though. The poor organ was beating wildly, threatening to kill her before her seething mate got his large hands around her neck.
"Please, come in." Her mind grappled with her predicament, searching for another escape route. None came to mind. His feet were planted firmly on the floorboards, his shoulders blocking anything beyond her line of sight. Whatever scrap of hope to escape she'd had diminished like a lit candle plunged in water.
He tilted his head gracefully to the side, watching her. "I see you are in good health." His voice was low and soft and lethal.
Levian took a step forwards; she took one back. He took another and she followed suit, and it became a dance of sorts until she felt something dig into her tailbone. She'd hit the farthest shelf in the deepest part of the bookshop. Panic became a living thing.
During the first year after she'd arrived in Varselles, she'd nearly driven herself to destruction looking over her shoulder every time she heard a sound. One year later, she'd stopped worrying. She'd succeeded in hiding well. She'd never bothered with a contingency plan. Staring into those glowing green eyes, she wondered at her stupidity.
She eyed him as he halted, slowly slid the leather gloves from his hands as if he had all the time in the world, then shoved them into his coat pocket. He flexed his fingers, his gaze roving her face, then settled for staring into her eyes. A series of emotions played across his face. What was he thinking? Other than probably strangling the daylights out of her? His eyes dropped to her mouth and his nostrils flared, eyes dilating. Well, now she knew what he was thinking about. Her tongue snuck out to wet her lips and she struggled for words-any words-to keep the tension that was now a living, breathing thing from swallowing her whole.
The past few years she'd dreamed of the day he'd look at her like this again-minus the fury simmering in his eyes. But now, with everything just hanging in the air....
He swallowed the inch of space between them, and she tensed, and at the same time, swam in his scent: leather and that special soap he was fond of with its citrusy smell, and unique Levian. His smell was rooted inside every little crevice in her body.
"You're not about to run off again, are you, Sera?"
Hearing her name spoken in that voice by those lips had her stomach clenching and heating up at the same time. Damn it! Why was her tongue stuck on the roof of her mouth? She was the Storm. She wasn't famous for being scared easily. Now she was treading in unknown territory, and it made her want to flee, and at the same time, fling herself onto the hard body of her mate and just let nature take its course.
Her cat purred in agreement. At least on the last part.
Calloused hands gripped her upper arms.
She tensed but her feet were stuck on the spot. She let the warmth and touch she'd missed so much seep into her skin. "We have to talk."
He cocked a brow at her. "You don't say." He brushed her cheek with his knuckles. Flames licked her skin as his fingertips traced her throat, and when they skated over the dented spot on her nose-a souvenir from her first fight in the Rings four years ago-she wasn't sure she was breathing anymore. His hand slid lower to unhook her bag from her shoulder, and he tossed it on the closest table, where it landed with a big thud.
Without warning, he cupped her neck firmly, and his fingers worked out the leather band holding her hair. It tumbled around her shoulders in waves.
"Much better," he said, playing with a few strands between his fingers, and then he leaned down and buried his face against her neck, sniffing long and hard until she felt as if he'd breathed in every trace of her scent into his body. "You still have my scent. Deep in your veins." His sounded smug, satisfied.

Book Blitz: Dear Adam by Ava Zavora; Excerpt + Giveaway

Dear Adam
Author: Ava Zavora
Release Date: 16 September 2013

"You're the more real to me than any man I've ever known ..."

To book blogger Eden, Adam is the embodiment of every literary fantasy she's ever had. Intelligent, wickedly funny, sexy, and attentive - he and his fascinating life seem right out of a novel. Their whirlwind relationship is so intense and all consuming that soon she can't imagine being with anyone else.

But there's one little thing that's keeping Adam and Eden from their happily ever after.

They've never met. She doesn't even know what he looks like.

Despite how hard she's fallen for him and how he makes her feel, Eden's doubts begin to threaten their passionate love affair. Why is he so mysterious? Why does he seem reluctant to meet her? What is Adam hiding?

Afraid that she's being made a fool of, Eden is forced to choose between her heart and her head. Is Adam too good to be true, as her common sense is telling her, or is the truth more startling than fiction?

Excerpt

"Eden, no one who knows me would ever believe how we met. Or that I am now a willing slave to our e-mails and Skype talks. You have to understand how strange this is for me. Two weeks ago, if a friend of mine had told me he found a woman online, I wouldn't hesitate telling him to run the other way and not look back."

"But we haven't met," she reminded him. She debated on whether or not to bring up the topic that had lately begun to insinuate itself into her every other thought.

"When," she started to ask hopefully. A definite when, not if. "When do you think we'll be able to meet?"

It worried her that he hadn't asked yet to meet her. Was she not enticing enough? Was she taking the whole thing too seriously? Was he still deciding if she could be trusted? Despite how much time they've spent together, she was starting to doubt herself. Maybe he didn't think she was worth flying halfway across the world.

His reply was swift. "Six months." His tone was firm. This topic was non-negotiable. "At least."

"Six months!" Eden exclaimed.

"I could be there tomorrow," he relented, softening a little. "But I can't leave my business for too long. It's at a critical phase at the moment and I need to be here to make sure nothing gets overlooked. And for our first meeting, I'd want us to have at least a week, maybe two. More importantly, we can't rush things, Edie."

"I'm not saying tomorrow," Eden said, deflated. "But six months?"

He cautioned against rushing things, but earlier he was hinting of a future together. It was becoming more difficult each day to let him go, no matter how much they e-mailed, no matter how long they talked. Even in the midst of conversation, she would be overwhelmed with an unexpected ache of missing him. His physical absence was a hollow, ever present void.

"We could be really amazing, you and I. But if we are going to do this, I want to do it properly. I want it to last. And that takes time. The best things are worth waiting for. We are worth waiting for. When it's right," he said in a voice that was unshakably certain, "Name the place. Name the date. Name the hour. And I will fly anywhere in the world to meet you."

Book Blitz: Anywhere With You by Kaylee Ryan

Anywhere With You
Author: Kaylee Ryan
Publication Date: 27 August 2013

Allison Hagan has not lived the life of a normal teenager. Her parents died in a car crash when she was ten, and she has been living with her elderly grandmother who happens to be her only living relative ever since. Allison became best friends with the boy next door, Aiden. Aiden’s family has taken her in as part of their own, which is why when her gran insists that she live in the dorms at college, Allison chooses to attend the same school as Aiden.

Liam MacCoy is a college senior and quarterback of his college football team. Liam is rumored to be first round draft pick for the NFL following graduation, as is his best friend, Aiden. Liam has one focus and that’s football, that is until his little sister introduces him to her roommate Allison. Since he met her, he hasn't been able to think of anything else.

Liam is not a relationship kind of guy, and Allison wants it all. She wants the romance and the family that she grew up without. Will Liam overcome his fear of relationships as well as the tangle of friendships to give Allison everything she wants?

Liam’s POV

I stop in front of the bathroom door and lean my forehead against it, I can hear her soft cries.  I knock softly, “Allison, it’s Liam. Can you let me in, sweetheart?”

“Just give me a minute, I’ll be fine,” she chokes out.

“Please,” I whisper.

I hear her shuffling towards the door, and then hear the handle move.  When she pulls the door open, her face is blotchy and her eyes are red and swollen.  Without even thinking, I step inside and shut the door.  I pull her close to me and wrap her in my arms.  I kiss the top of her head, and as I do she begins to cry harder.  I’m not sure how long we stay like that, but while I am holding her, I lose a piece of myself to Allison Shay Hagan.

She pulls away from me slowly. “Sorry about your shirt,” she whispers.

I pull her chin up with my thumb and forefinger so that she is looking me in the eye. “Are you okay?  Do you want to talk about it?”

She shakes her head no. “I feel like such a baby.  It was years ago, I should be able to talk about it.”

“Is there something in particular that upset you?” I ask softly as I pull her back into my chest and slowly rub my hand up and down her back.

“Not really, it’s just…” She sniffled.

“What, baby? What happened?

“It’s just family dinners.  I miss those. For the last eight years it’s just been Gran and me.”

I can’t find the words through the lump in my throat.  My only reply is to pull her tighter.  As I do, she in turn wraps her arms tight around my waist.  After getting my emotions under control, I pull away from her and cup her face in my hands.  I wipe her tears away with my thumbs.  “You are amazing, you have so many people who love you, Aiden, his parents, Hailey.  My parents adore you.”  I swallow back my emotions. “You have me,” I whisper never tearing my eyes from hers.

“Liam,” she murmurs.

Her plea sends me over the edge, I slowly bring her face to mine as I lean down.  I stare at her lips and then back to her eyes letting her know my intent.  I need to kiss her more than I need my next breath.  I wait, as my intentions set in. I can see when understanding flashes across her face and she licks her lips.  I lean a little closer, closing the space between us.  Hesitating, giving her the opportunity to stop me, she doesn’t.

When my lips touch hers, I feel the tremor in my hands that are gently holding her close to me.  She must have felt it to because she places her hands over mine as I continue to caress her cheeks while I kiss her.  She opens her mouth and I slip my tongue inside.  The taste of her on my tongue causes me to release a deep moan. As I do, Allison slows the kiss and rests her forehead against my chest.

“Liam.”

“Mmm,” I am again at a loss for words.  I have kissed my share of girls and not once did any of those kisses elicit this kind of reaction from me.  I have never in my life felt this kind of connection with any other human being.

“What are we doing?”

I kiss her forehead as I pull back to look into her eyes. “I was kissing the most amazing girl I have ever met.” I need her to know that she is different.

She blushes. “I want more, Liam.  Not that I expect a proposal next week, but you’ve already made it clear that you won’t make a commitment, so what are we doing?”

I shake my head and pull her back to my chest. “I don’t know, baby.  All that I can tell you is that kiss was incomparable to anything I have ever felt.  You wreck me, you know that?” I ask searching her face for understanding.

“Well, since that was officially my first kiss, I don’t have anything to compare it to, but this feeling.” She grabs my hand and lays it over her heart. “This connection that makes my heart race is uncharted waters for me.  I wish that I could hold onto it and never let go.” She sighs, “But I need all of you, Liam. I don’t want to share you, and I can’t just be a fling.  My heart can’t take it.”  She brushes her hands across my cheek.  “If you ever decide that you can give me all of you, you know where to find me.” She lifts up on her tip toes and gives me one last chaste kiss on the lips.  “Thank you for listening, and for the kiss,” she says as she turns and walks out of the room.

I stand there trying to regain control of my emotions while her words race through my mind.

Allison POV

I wake up feeling like I am being crushed.  I open my eyes and it all comes rushing back to me.  Liam.  I am lying flat on my back and he is sleeping soundly with his head on my chest, arms around my waist and his leg thrown over mine.  I can’t prevent the smile that I know I am sporting.  He held me in his arms all night.  I glance out the window and it’s still dark outside. Good.  This gives me some time to watch him in the shadows.  I move my hand to his head and begin running my fingers through his hair.  Liam has taken me by storm; body, mind and heart.  I was worried that he would want more from me before I am ready, and even that he is “playing me” to get into my pants, but he has treated me with nothing but love and respect.  Love?  I highly doubt that it’s love but I can tell that he truly cares for me.  The way he looks at me, touches me, holds me.  He makes me feel wanted.

I can feel myself falling harder and faster by the minute.  I’m scared as hell, but I’m going to go with it.  I’m going to paint my colors on the canvas of life and see how the picture turns out.  My only hope is that Liam and I can continue on this journey together.

I continue running my fingers through his hair, watching him sleep when a loud clap of thunder rumbles through.  I jump not expecting it and Liam bolts up.  “Allie what’s wrong?”  I can’t contain the laugh that escapes me.

“Nothing, the thunder just scared me, I wasn’t expecting it,” I tell him as he pulls me into his arms.

“Did it wake you up baby?” he asks softly as he strokes his fingers across my back.

“No, I was awake,” I reply just as softly.
“What? Why were you awake?  Are you okay?” he asks.

I giggle at how concerned he is for me. “Liam, I’m fine.  I was…I was watching you sleep.”  I reach up and run my hands through his hair.  “I was doing this, and memorizing everything that I could about you.” I decide honestly is the best policy.  Well almost, I refuse to tell him that I think I’m in love with him.  Hell to the no! That would scare him off for sure.

“I thought that I was dreaming but you’re really here,” he speaks softly into my neck.

“Yes, I’m here. You can go back to sleep, I’m sorry that I woke you.” I curl tighter against his chest.

Liam tugs the covers back over us and kisses the top of my head.  “Can we spend the day together?” he asks me groggily.  I’m not completely sure that he’s not talking in his sleep.  I hold in the chuckle that wants to escape me.  I don’t want to wake him again if he is sleeping.

“I would want nothing more,” I reply honestly.
