Heartbreak and Honor (Romancing a Scot #3)
Author: Collette Cameron
Release date: 2 December 2015
Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing
Abducted by a band of renegade Scots, Highland gypsy Tasara Faas doesn’t hesitate to blacken the eye of her rescuer when the charming duke attempts to steal a kiss. Afterward, Tasara learns she’s the long-lost heiress Alexandra Atterberry and is expected to take her place among the elite society she’s always disdained.
Lucan, the Duke of Harcourt, promised his gravely ill mother he’d procure a wife by Christmastide, but intrigued by the feisty lass he saved in Scotland, he finds the haut ton ladies lacking. Spying Alexa at a London ball, he impulsively decides to make the knife-wielding gypsy his bride despite her aversion to him and her determination to return to the Highlands.
The adversary responsible for Alexa’s disappearance as a toddler still covets her fortune and joins forces with Harcourt’s arch nemesis. Amidst a series of suspicious misfortunes, Lucan endeavors to win Alexa’s love and expose the conspirators but only succeeds in reaffirming Alexa’s belief that she is inadequate to become his duchess.

Review
I've been looking forward to Tasara and Harcourt's story since they were introduced in Virtue and Valor. They had such a promising and unusual start when Tasara punches Harcourt after he rescues her and tries to steal a kiss. The rest of their romance held up to the initial high expectations and I loved watching their story unfold.
Tasara's world is rocked when she discovers that she is in fact the long-lost heiress Alexa Atterberry, and not the daughter of Scots tinker gypsies as she has been brought up to believe. I thought Alexa (I'm going to stick with that name for the rest of this) took the upheaval of her life with aplomb. She's incredibly resilient and good natured. She retains her humour and determination as she learns to adjust to her new life, but she never forgets who she is at heart either.
Harcourt is a dashing Duke who has led a rather charmed life. He's good looking, wealthy and charming with the world at his feet. When his beloved mother's health takes a turn for the worse, he promises to find a wife by Christmas. Problem is, he can't seem to forget about the entirely unsuitable gypsy girl he rescued...until he sees her across a crowded ballroom. I loved how kind and protective Harcourt is.
The relationship between Alexa and Harcourt is so sweet. They have a comfortable friendship which is such essential support for Alexa as she navigates the ton and some unscrupulous relations. They also have a passionate chemistry which won't be ignored. I liked that Harcourt loved the ways in which Alexa is different, he finds her refreshing and enjoys her untainted view of the world. I also loved the way he supports Alexa when she's at her most vulnerable and strives to protect her form those who seek to cause her harm.
There's many twists and turns in the story as Alexa and her newly found family seek to restore her inheritance and title to her. Harcourt also has a villainous nemesis set out to cause him trouble. As the story progresses both plotlines merge and twist together. My one niggle about this book is that the fates of our villains are tied up very neatly and quickly, I would have liked more of a confrontation perhaps. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and Alexa and Harcourt make such a sweet couple. They just have the sweetest romance, despite its many interruptions and obstacles, spiced with the perfect amount of heat. I'm already looking forward to Seonaid's story, hopefully coming soon!
