Betrayed by the man she loved. Can she ever trust again?
The brand-new novel of love, drama and hope from legendary Nora Roberts
When her husband Richard dies in an accident, Shelby Pomeroy is devastated. But his death reveals a horrible truth - Richard was a liar and a cheat. Now Shelby is left with the consequences - huge, terrifying debts and mounting proof that her husband betrayed her in every conceivable way.
Heart-broken but unbowed, Shelby is determined to fix her problems - if only for the sake of her gorgeous little daughter Callie. Returning home to Tennessee and the family she thought she'd lost for ever, she discovers a new sense of strength and freedom. And hope, too, in the handsome form of carpenter Griffin Lott - a straight-dealing man who couldn't lie to her if he tried.
But not everyone is thrilled to see Shelby Pomeroy back in town. When a shocking act of violence is traced back to Richard's shady business, it becomes clear that she is not safe from him, even in death. With her life in danger, Shelby must face the lies of the past - or lose everything.

Review

Shelby is a very determined and strong woman, I really admired how well she picked herself up after the devastating blows she's dealt. She only grows in strength through the book. I also loved her devotion to her daughter Callie, it's that love that gives her the strength she needs to put her life back together.
Griff is the complete opposite of Richard. He's honest, kind, considerate and wonderful to Callie. I like that though he wants Shelby immediately, he's happy to be patient and go at her pace. Griff is exactly the kind of man that Shelby deserves after the disaster of Richard.
I thought the romance between Griff and Shelby was sweet, if a touch too predictable. What I really enjoyed in this book was the small, Southern town setting of Rendezvous Ridge and the host of supporting characters who add so much warmth to the story. The family feel throughout the story is just lovely, and Shelby's large, loving and supportive family are wonderful.
Once Shelby returns to Rendezvous Ridge, the pace of the story slows right down and considering the length of the book it felt a bit too drawn out., Even when the suspense element of the book starts to pick up, it still feels a little sluggish. The ending is where the danger and the pace pick up before all the puzzle pieces come together.
Overall, this is an enjoyable romantic suspense that seamlessly blends mystery and danger, with a sweet, small town romance. I always enjoy a Nora Roberts novel, and this is another lovely example of why.
*I received a review copy from the publisher, for my honest review. Thank you!
